SPECIAL MEETING
A special meeting of the Homestead Township Board was called to order at 4:30 p.m., by Chair Cathy Demitroff.
Present: Cathy Demitroff, Shelley Rosa, Mary Geetings, and Zelda Gray. Absent Matt Miller.
Also Present: Frank Walterhouse and Rick Zych
The floor was opened up to Frank Walterhouse and Rick Zych, who were notified by Bob Weaver that one of the firemen has been caught stealing gas from the Road Commission.
It was explained to the board how the process with the gas cards take place, and how it was that Chris Thompson was caught. Frank and Rick along with Bob Weaver reviewed the surveillance tapes at the Road Commission.
The tapes showed 7 times that gas was taken in a 2 week period. They show Chris's vehicle, but not Chris himself. Frank, when looking back over the gas bills cannot account for 3 other times that gas was taken. Frank and Rick's recommendation to the board was to terminate the employee immediately and have him pay back the estimated cost of $375.00 from his next pay check in September.
A lengthy discussion followed and the board felt that a stronger message needed to be sent to the employee and have him prosecuted.
Rick Doerhing from the State police was then asked to join our meeting, and to investigate.
The Policy and Procedure manual was reviewed and the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief were to contact Chris and place him on temporary leave of absence.
