Members present: Cliff Grostick, Todd Warren, Denis Rokicki, Frank Walterhouse

Absent: Patty Geetings, Cathy Demitroff

Call to Order: The Meeting was called to order at 5:30pm

Approval of the Minutes of the December 6, 2007 meeting: The minutes were read by Warren. Motion by Grostick to approve, supported by Rokicki. Ayes: all Nays: none Motion carried.

Approval of Agenda: Motion by Grostick to approve, supported by Rokicki. Ayes: all Nays: none Motion carried.

2008 Meeting Schedule: Walterhouse distributed a proposed schedule for 2008 meetings. Motion by Grostick to approve, supported by Rokicki. Ayes: all Nays: none Motion carried.

Old Business:

Restroom Project: Walterhouse distributed copies of a grant application to the Olsen Foundation. $7500.00 were applied for. This application and one for the 2% Tribal grant, in the amount of $22,500, were mailed out last month. Expected response is in early February.

Tree Removal and Clean Up: Walterhouse stated that he had contacted several contractors about the possible removal and clean up of trees along the walking path. They all stated that the trees would not be worth any money to cover the costs of removal and clean up. The Committee decided to put this business on hold for now.

New Business:

Skateboard Park Proposal: Walterhouse distributed a packet of information on the proposed skate park. The packet included; Committee members discussed the possibility of applying for the Tony Hawk Foundation Grant. Warren stated that he had reviewed the grant application and was concerned that the committee needed to have more proof of community support and local skater support. Committee members discussed possible ways to get this information together for the March 1st application deadline. Local skateboarders ( Calvin Smith, Nate Brown, Aron Kelm and Marcus Link) were present and joined in on the discussion. They agreed to work with Warren and Katrina Smith to look into local fundraising and support from teachers and a local skate shop owner. Grostick offered to talk to the Village of Honor and several local businesses to ask for support and possible donations. Motion by Grostick to seek local support and funding and to request approval by the township board for the committee to apply for the Tony Hawk Foundation Grant in the amount of $22,439, supported by Walterhouse Ayes: all Nays: none Motion carried.

Public Input:

Local Skateboarders (names above) gave suggestions of possible sources of support and offered to talk to teachers , parents and local skate shop owner. They also would work on some fund raising ideas. Suggestions for the design of the park were also offered.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:30pm.

The next meeting of the Homestead Township Parks and Recreation Committee will be February 21 at 5:30pm.
