Members present: Secretary Todd Warren, Chairman Denis Rokicki, Vice Chairman Frank Walterhouse,

Others present: Cathy Demitroff

Absent: Patty Geetings, Cliff Grostick.

Call to Order: The Meeting was called to order at 5:31pm

Approval of the Minutes of the Jan. 17, 2008 meeting: . Motion by Walterhouse to approve, supported by Rokicki. Ayes: all Nays: none Motion carried.

Old Business:

1.Meeting schedule: Demitroff suggested we change the meeting schedule for the summer, because some members will be too busy to attend. Members also discussed changing meeting times.

Motion by Rokicki to suspend the June, July and August meetings and to change the start times of the April, May, September and October meetings at 6pm, supported by Walterhouse Ayes: all Nays: none Motion carried.

2. Grant application to Grand Traverse Band. Walterhouse presented a copy of an article from the Leelanau Enterprise. The article listed some of the grant recipients. Homestead was not listed and no other news was heard on the grant.

3. Olsen Grant application. Demitroff read a letter from the Olsen Foundation requesting more information for our grant application. Committee members will work to get the needed information for Demitroff to submit this information.

4. Skate Park Grant. Warren gave a synopsis of how the grant application for the Tony Hawk grant was progressing. Warren reported that he was working with some teens and parents on meeting some of the requirements for the grant, but that these would not be ready for the March 1st deadline. A fund raiser was scheduled for Feb. 23rd. This would help show local skateboarder support. Rokicki and Walterhouse also presented letters of support from local businesses and organizations. Grostick was responsible for soliciting several of the letters. It was decided that Warren would continue to work with Katrina Smith, parents and local skateboarders to apply for the Grant in October. Walterhouse requested that Warren look into the spending requirements for the Tony Hawk Grant.

New Business:

Demitroff brought information on the Home Town Helper Grant. Rokicki said he would research this further. He would also look into possible ways of funding and building a playscape.

Walterhouse mentioned that the park could really use some more equipment for younger children. Some funding possible sources included; Cherryland Electric Co-op, Honor State Bank and the Home Town Helper Grant.

The next meeting of the Homestead Township Parks and Recreation Committee will be March 20th at 5:30pm
