Members present: Secretary Todd Warren, Chairman Denis Rokicki, Vice Chairman Frank Walterhouse
Absent: Patty Geetings, Cliff Grostick.
Others present: Township Supervisor; Cathy Demitroff
Call to Order: The Meeting was called to order at 5:31pm by Chairman Denis Rokicki
Approval of the Minutes of the February 21,2008 meeting: . Motion by Walterhouse to approve, supported by Warren. Ayes: all Nays: none Motion carried.
Old Business:
1. Grant application to Grand Traverse Band. Walterhouse presented a letter from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. The letter stated that they did not designate any money to fund the Townships request. They did suggest that we should reapply for the next cycle.
2. Olsen Grant application. The deadline is April 1st so we will not hear from the foundation until later in the spring.
3. Skate Park Grant. Warren gave a synopsis of how the sledding party fund-raiser went on February 27. A little over 200$ was collected in the fund raiser, also some new contacts were made that have experience in constructing skatepark equipment. Warren stated that the skatepark group is hoping to have another fund-raiser this spring and some in the summer. He was also waiting to receive an application for a Cherryland Electric Grant.
Motion by Rokicki for Warren to apply for a Cherryland Electric Grant for the skate park. supported by Walterhouse. Ayes all Nays none. Motioned carried.
4. Home Town Helper Grant/ Playground Equipment. Rokicki stated that he would like to apply for the home town grant to apply to the restroom project.
Motion by Rokicki to apply for the Home Town Helper Grant for the restroom project in the amount of 5000$ supported by Warren. Ayes all Nays none. Motioned carried.
Rokicki said he was still working on the playscape idea and will research playground equipment.
New Business:
Members discussed looking into other grants like the Honor State Bank Mini-grants.
Public Input: Aron Kelm ( member of the skatepark group) said that he was working on some contacts that may help in the design and construction of a skatepark. He also stated that June 21st is National Skate Day and suggested that they hand out info. and maybe try and raise some funds at out of town skateparks.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:25pm.
The next meeting of the Homestead Township Parks and Recreation Committee will be April 17, at 6:00pm
