Old Business:
1. Olsen Grant application: Walterhouse stated that the grant was submitted requesting 20,000$ for the construction of new restrooms. He stated that we should know the results by mid-summer.
2. Skate Park Grant: Warren stated that he had meet with the skatepark supporters group and they had organized another fund-raiser. The fund-raiser will be a teen dance on April 24th at the Township hall..
Warren stated that he had found out that the township was not eligible to apply for a Cherryland Electric Grant, because they required that the applicant be a 501(c)3 organization. Members discussed the possibility of having a service organization try for the grant on behalf of the township. Gettings stated that she thought that the village of Honor had help from Cherryland for the shelter in their park.
Warren also stated that a dedicated fund would have to somehow be set up in the township budget for the money to be applied for through the Tony Hawk Foundation. Cathy Demitroff suggested that he approach the township board in August to try and get the required fund and support from the board. The next deadline for the Tony Hawk Grant is Oct. 1st.
3. Home Town Helper Grant/ Playground Equipment: Rokicki stated that he has applied for the Helper grant and would like to increase the amount applied for to 10,000$ . Motion by Walterhouse to apply for the Home Town Helper Grant for the restore project in the amount of 10,000$ supported by Warren. Ayes all Nays none. Motioned carried.
We should here about the grant results in June.
Rokicki said he has talked with some fellow Eagles members who have helped on playscapes. He will get more information from them. He would like to get more groups and parents involved in the playscape idea.
New Business:
1. Grant from Grand Traverse Band: Walterhouse asked if the group wanted to apply for the tribal grant again. The next cycle deadline is June 30th. He also asked if we wanted to apply for the money for the restrooms or the playscape. Members all agreed we should pursue the grant again and seemed to lean towards using it for the playscape.
2. Summer Teams: Walterhouse also presented the summer schedule for the baseball teams. The park is very busy from mid May to the end of August. A fall league from August through the end of Sept. keeps the park moderately busy.
3. Township Newsletter: Walterhouse also presented the part of the township newsletter that gave a synopsis of what the Park Committee has been up to. Rokiki thanked Walterhouse for helping get the information in the newsletter.
4. Raffle fund-raiser: Members discussed the possibility of holding raffles during some of the baseball games. Members felt this would possibly raise some funds for park improvement and get more of the public involved in park issues such as restroom renovations. Demitroff stated she would look into the requirements that need to be met to hold a raffle.
Public Input: no public input.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:05pm.
