Frank Walterhouse gave an update on the grant possibilities. He indicated the contractor will give a cost estimate to him so a budget can be developed for the application process. The Homestead Township Board supported the application for the Native American 2 % match grant with a motion and a signed letter of support for the project. It will be mailed with the application as soon as the budget it completed.
Mr. Walterhouse has contacted Allen Tree Doctor to get estimates of what value may be received by the cutting of the older pine trees in the woods part of the parks walking trail.
Public In-put:
Students Nat Brown, Kelvin Smith and Erin Kelm encouraged the constructing of a skate park as a project for the Homestead Recreational Park. Katrina Smith discussed possible grant funding with the committee that she would be willing to help with, among these were the Tony Hawk grant and the Native American 2% grant. The students and Ms. Smith discussed safety factors of a skate park. A discussion took place on a possible location and what it would take equipment wise to get one started. The Committee thought there is a very good possible of this becoming a top of the list project.
The erosion project in the park is on hold until spring due to the inclement weather.
Cathy Demitroff will as Jim Demitroff, Elmer’s employee, what is more expensive, concrete or asphalt.
The Committee discussed the purchase of new playground equipment. It is felt by all there are some really good kits out there that can be put together by volunteers to save money. This will be researched.
The Committee also discussed a Frisbee Golf course, a Horseshoe Pit, and a Grand Stand. It was the consensus of the membership and the public present that a grand stand could also serve a good place to hold various fundraisers.
The next meeting of the Homestead Township Parks and Recreation Committee will be held on Thursday January 17th at 5:30P.M.
The meeting adjourned at 7:25P.M.
Respectfully submitted by
